Some of you may remember Sediba, and we wanted to reintroduce you to this remarkable young elephant and share how far she’s come. 🐘 Sediba was orphaned during a time of severe drought. Searching desperately for water near Nxaraga Village, she fell into an uncovered, handmade well five meters deep and was trapped there alone for nearly two days. When our team reached her, it was clear this rescue would be unlike any we had done before. Sediba was our first elephant rescue that required a crane truck. The space was so narrow she couldn’t even turn around, and lifting her safely took careful planning, patience, and courage from everyone involved. The days that followed were critical. Sediba was weak, dehydrated, and unsure, and there were moments when we weren’t certain she would survive. Thanks to the tireless care of our veterinary team, especially Dr. Caron, and the steady dedication of her handler, Mayo, she slowly began to recover. Mayo searched for anything that might spark her appetite and eventually found soft green grass near the water’s edge that helped her regain interest in eating. Not long after, she took her first bottle. Today, Sediba is gaining weight, building strength, and rediscovering what it means to be an elephant. She now spends her days browsing and foraging with Matriarch Bokamoso and the herd, a quiet but powerful sign of healing and belonging. If you’d like to be part of Sediba’s journey, you can help support her ongoing care by fostering her. Your support helps provide the food, veterinary care, and daily attention she needs as she continues to grow and thrive.
