Students at Edison Middle School in Green Bay staged another anti-ICE walkout Thursday, one day after the first walkout ended with damage to several local businesses. In a statement Thursday, the Green Bay Area Public School District estimated that about 20 students left class Thursday. After Wednesday's walkout, the district apologized to area businesses, saying some students engaged in "disruption and inappropriate behaviors." Lt. Kris Thoreson, school resource officer supervisor for the Green Bay Police Department, provided this statement to FOX 11 following Wednesday's walkout: "We are currently in the initial stages of reviewing all incidents reported yesterday. Based on our review of these juvenile matters, we will determine whether any ordinance or criminal violations occurred and decide what enforcement action, if any, is appropriate." On Thursday, students who walked out of class weren't seen leaving school grounds after warnings from Green Bay police. “If you leave school property, you could be cited for truancy. I suggest you go back to class,” the officer said over his cruiser speaker to students outside the school. GBAPS told FOX 11 that any consequences from the damage caused to businesses during Wednesday's walkout will align with board policy. "While our doors are locked, it is against fire code to lock the doors from the inside. In addition, refusing to allow kids to leave would be violating their First Amendment rights. As we shared with Edison families yesterday and today, students on school grounds will be supervised to ensure safety." Officials emphasized that most of the students who participated in Wednesday's walkout did so peacefully throughout the neighborhood and on the school track and only a "small number" behaved poorly.
