@bakedbynech: Looking back, it’s crazy how far my family has come. The stories my mom tells me about life back in Kurdistan compared to life now are unbelievable. My own personal story is also wild. To think that the first croissants I ever had were expired Costco croissants from the food bank, and now I get to make croissants that people genuinely enjoy. Food banks don’t get talked about enough in this country, even though 1 in 5 children in the United States lives in a food-insecure home. They’re not perfect. But they are often the difference between eating and not eating. Something I didn’t fully understand growing up is how many working families rely on food banks temporarily. Teachers. Construction workers. Seniors. Single parents. People doing their best. Our mailman would bring us pan dulce from his parents bakery. He would stop the bakery and get us pan dulce that didn’t sell and would leave the box on the porch or sometimes he would give it directly to us. We were in heaven those days.

My family used to rely on food banks for a while. I was always excited for it because it meant we would have food. I’ve come a long way but I cherish that time because it helped shape my understanding of the world and how everyone has different daily struggles. God bless 🙏🏼

Genuine question why does food banks give us expired food, every time I got there I get a bunch of expired breads and I end up throwing them away

i run a chocolate shop. i send my still very good but passed date chocolate to the local bank. i have people stop by my shop all the time with glee on their faces thanking me for the goodies. i hate to think about how man people don't have basics never mind luxury items.

I can't remember it well but I think when I was little we got food from a food bank and I honestly miss it (mostly the muffins)
