I like coffee dates for people I have never met in person!
I will usually say let's do coffee and if it goes well we can grab lunch.
gives me an easy out or a way to extend.
second dates should be more formal or planned events!
however if it was with someone I met in person I wouldn't do a coffee date. you already know you want to spend more time together.

it's always odd to me the framing of this. Is dating about connecting with another human being? or is it about the value of "your time". if you really want to get to know someone, you would sit with them on a street curb and the word investment or value should never enter your mind

Na…. I want to get dolled up and feel femine…. & I have a hard time getting motivated to get all dolled up for a coffee shop.

I think coffee dates are ok to sus someone out from online dating or something. If you met him while you were out, you already connected and assuming you had chemistry so coffee is not acceptable imo

Coffee is perfect, I can tell in 2 minutes if we vibe, no reason to waste a whole dinner and time. Coffee, we vibe, then dinner.

I personally don't like coffee dates because for me , coffee is something super casual and doesn't set the tone for romance.

Is it about getting to know someone or about how much they are spending?

I used to think coffee dates were OK just for a vibe check but then I realized it really takes something away from that first meeting. If you’re wanting a romantic relationship, a coffee date feels like an interview. I’d rather get drinks if we want to keep it brief because at least you’re sitting there side-by-side and there’s a bit of a romantic vibe to it. I’ve just never felt any chemistry on a coffee date. It feels too sterile.

Always always dinner for the first date. Doesn’t have to be super expensive, but it should be a decently nice place that shows you know how to plan something

No, I’m not going. I’ll accept activities, creative things. Doesn’t have to be dinner, but I’m leaving my home for that.

Coffee can segue into lunch, or a walk, or an activity! I like to do coffee if I haven’t met the person before.

“Worth your time” is a double-edged sword. Gotta make sure the boat floats before you go deep sea fishing. Just my two cents.

It’s not about low effort. It’s about safe. Low pressure on either party instead of getting stuck on a 4-5 hour dinner that one or both parties are miserable.

I think only if you haven’t met before. If you have then no… low effort !

If a woman tells me she’s available for dinner on a Monday night, mmmm I think not.

I guess I’d do lunch as a compromise between coffee and dinner. But I’m out of that loop so idk.
