Where will Ontario healthcare—and our nurses—be in 3 years?$4.1B spent on private clinics, yet wait times are UP. A new report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives reveals that between 2017 and 2025, Ontario poured $4.1 billion into private, for-profit facilities to clear backlogs—yet median MRI wait times climbed from 35 to 47 days, and cataract wait times worsened despite a 185% surge in funding to private eye clinics. Because for-profit clinics cost taxpayers up to 3x more per procedure, critical funding is being siphoned away from public community hospitals now facing massive deficits and empty operating rooms. If this continues over the next 3 years, nurses in public hospitals will face escalating workload, more workplace violence and severe moral distress—caring for sicker patients with fewer resources as staff are drawn to lighter private workloads or costly temp agencies. Siphoning staff doesn’t create new health human resources; it hollows out public capacity and risks locking Ontario into a two-tier system where care depends on your wallet, not your health card. What do you think Ontario should do? Drop your thoughts below. #ontario #healthcare #dougford #nurse #canada
