Yessss agree with all of this !!! I hate when people assume so much just because I'm flexible about my own name pronunciation and then try to tell me how to pronounce my own name. I take no joy in being overly corrective and it's not realistic

If I am speaking to someone from my background I would obviously say it the way its pronounced but if I am speaking to someone who is from western country, they can’t say your name.

Totally agree.. Some country or state have different kind of pronouncing n its not a big deal to just follow the places accents.. Its just to make things easier...

I understand the people who say we need to expand other peoples vocabulary, like i get it, but most of the people who say that have simple names. Its exhausting to know that your name is will require giving a lesson on linguistics to get other people to pronounce it correctly, and i know that people arent intending to be disrespectful for not knowing how to say is, so i just dont care about it being pronounced incorrectly, its not coming from a bad place and it makes it easier on me to not correct them

Firstly, you are so well spoken andthis entire topic is so interesting to me as a white american. Moving on, I have only one Indian friend named Tanav, and I don't know how it's pronounced. I used to ask all the time but feel like an idiot since it's the only name I can't remember. Would you know if the second a is pronounced like "ah" or "uh" and if whichever pronunciation would be a default for more Indian names if I encounter more Indian people in the future?

I think we need to expand the vocabulary of white people. We shouldn’t need to cater to them, it almost comes off as insecure. I get it when you are a kid and are worried about being bullied. But when you’re grown, you could teach other mature grown adults to pronounce it properly.
