I honestly feel like her parents (especially her father) like Travis because that’s the version of her they find the easiest/most palatable to them. Joe made her “difficult” in her father’s eyes. It’s sad.

Like a mirrorball, she has no idea who she really is and she’s been doing all these things based on the people in her orbit. So many of the major pivot points in her life have been centered around her connections with others—parents, fans, boyfriends, record labels, investors, managers.

I think it's telling that when she was talking about the album before we heard anything from it, she kept saying “This is the album I have always wanted to make.” She did not anticipate we would hate it as much as we do!

In the doc, she openly rejected getting “emotional” about the tragic events she described, because she wanted us to value this projected ‘strength’ over emotional vulnerability. Who was that for? Her fans want her to FEEL. The impression that she lets things like her little fans being killed just roll off her back is NOT flattering.

One of my tin foil hat theories is that her dad tried to force Joe into a movie star but Joe didn’t want to. So in the end, Joe loved Taylor but didn’t want to marry Taylor Swift TM which is in part led by her dad.

mind you, I am more of a casual listener, so I didn't knew about the parents lore, but if she released an album inspired and reflecting about her relationship with her parents I would eat that up. parents can be supportive but this can also feel like a cage sometimes.

I love Joe and I think he truly pushed her to be a better person you saw glimpses of his love and influence in midnights and then all of that love and light disappeared. He’s daylight he’s sweet nothings he’s golden.

Joe was such a deep person and she even said “Joe is the first person I play every song for” he had so much input and that’s why the albums she made while she was with him were lyrically so much better. But when she went on new heights she said “Travis knows big words” like what? 🤪 I like showgirl not all the songs but I do like it. But it’s very different because Travis is not a deep person at all 🥴

I’ve always felt like her in miss Americana felt like such a rebellious chapter to her because it was mostly a rebellious act against her dad (a republican) I believe that at the time Joe was super supportive of her and she felt that comfort elsewhere, now she’s back to the security of her parents and what they provided for her, whether she knows it or not.

I’m convinced that the story of how Travis and Taylor met is a lie, Scott probably arranged the whole thing and wanted Taylor to date Travis right after Joe. Matty gave him the perfect opportunity to say to Taylor “I told you so, do as I say”. And she finally gave in

She wants to be a business but gets upset when fans engage with her critically, as they would a business that puts out a bad product. She expects unfailing loyalty, which speaks to the presales. Her fans are supposed to fork over their money no matter the quality of the product. And they better not complain about it.
