It's the temperature difference. You gave to let them sit and get to room temp before washing them. The metal sink conducted the temperature quickly. I'm so glad it didn't hurt you anymore than it did. I hate glass shelves in refrigerators so much

I believe this is tempered glass which when hit in a weak spot it shatters like this 😭😭😭 sometimes it also just randomly explodes 😭

if the glass was cold from being in the fridge the temperature changed made it so even the slightest touch can break it (I know from experience)

I had this happen with a fish tank once! Picked it up and it just shattered. Luckily it was empty, but also my fish had just died. So that made a bad day even worse.
