@drkaydo: I’m a board certified obesity medicine physician. Here are 5 things I see people get wrong when they try to lose weight. 1. They think it’s about willpower If weight loss were just about discipline, most of my patients wouldn’t struggle. Obesity changes hunger, fullness, and metabolism. Fighting your biology rarely works long term. 2. They obsess over calories and ignore hormones When insulin, leptin, and hunger hormones are dysregulated, eating less doesn’t feel sustainable. This is why two people can eat the same calories and have very different results. 3. They eat too little and call it discipline Under eating, especially protein, slows metabolism, increases hunger, and leads to muscle loss. It might work short term, but it often backfires. 4. They try to out exercise their appetite Movement is important for health, but exercise alone usually does not lead to meaningful weight loss. For many people, it actually increases hunger and leads to compensation. 5. They wait too long to ask for medical help Medications, nutrition therapy, and structured treatment are tools, not a last resort. The earlier we treat obesity, the better the long term outcomes.

I think it’s definitely mix of some people going overboard when they are trying to decrease their calories and also a bit of psych bc often obesity with a large populations comes from stress or a problem that they are trying to compensate for
