I never thought a “simple” antibiotic like doxycycline would land me in the hospital. I was prescribed doxycycline and took it exactly like I was told. What *no one* told me (doctor nor pharmacist) was **how** I needed to take it. I took it at night before bed like I usually do with meds, because they tend to upset my stomach and I’d rather sleep through that than deal with it at work. 5 days after starting it, I began having really uncomfortable pain in my chest/throat area. I brushed it off at first, but it kept getting worse and worse until I couldn’t ignore it anymore. Eventually, the pain was so intense I ended up being admitted to the hospital for esophagus. Essentially the pill disintegrated a section my esophagus. Only *after* all of this did I learn how I was supposed to be taking it: - Taking it in the **morning** - With at least **12oz of water** - And **not lying down for up to 3 hours** after taking it I’m sharing this because: 1. Medications are powerful, even the common ones. 2. Side effects are real, and you’re not being dramatic for paying attention to them. 3. If something feels wrong, please advocate for yourself and get checked. This is just my personal experience, not medical advice, always talk to your doctor or pharmacist about how *you* should take your meds safely and what warning signs to watch for. 💊❤️ #dermatitis #doxycyline #skin #hospital #doctors
