I live in Japan and Japan has to put trash cans, you can walk for miles and not find one. It's unbelievable an advanced society is so outdated on basics life principles.

They had 💣 incident in the 90s I believe where someone put them in trash cans so the Japanese government removed trash cans to be safe, it’s understandable but same tiem trash cans are a necessity

Was just in Japan, carried a reusable bag to put our trash took it home at the end of the day and separated it into the proper bins. Hope this helps 🫶

The main reasons for the lack of trash cans in Japanese cities are the strengthened anti-terrorism measures that were implemented after the 1995 Sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway (to prevent them from being used as suspicious property storage areas), the need to reduce the huge costs of management and cleaning, and the need to prevent household waste from being brought in. Additionally, the deeply rooted culture and custom of "taking home what you produce" helps maintain the beauty of the city.

it would be worse if y'all did have them. In America, most cans don't have lids and the trash blows away turning into litter. especially in neglected, poor areas even step cans bc they're neglected

I watched a lot of YouTube content in Japan and there's always trash either scattered across one street or piled on in a corner. They do clean it up but it would cut costs tremendously of they just added trash cans.

I was fine with no trash can on the street, especially when I'm from a country where they vandalized the trash can and see a lot of turist and locals throwing their trash on it (even when is only for bottles, plastic or the trash can is so full but people put it anyway) so I was fine with my donut trash on my bag until we go back to the apartment and throw it on their respective bag 😆
