one of my fav edits probably -- The Saudi Arabian Armed Forces, also known as the Royal Saudi Armed Forces, represent one of the most well-funded and equipped military organizations in the Middle East. Established in its modern form around 1929, the military has grown significantly over the decades, evolving from a relatively small force focused on internal security and tribal alliances into a sophisticated defense apparatus designed to protect the kingdom's vast territory, oil infrastructure, and strategic interests. Today, the forces operate under the Ministry of Defense and consist of several main branches: the Royal Saudi Land Forces (army), Royal Saudi Naval Forces, Royal Saudi Air Force, Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces, and Royal Saudi Strategic Missile Force. This structure allows for comprehensive coverage across land, sea, and air domains, with an emphasis on deterrence against regional threats. The Royal Saudi Land Forces form the backbone of the ground component, with strengths in armored and mechanized units. Equipped with hundreds of modern main battle tanks, including American-made M1A2 Abrams variants, along with thousands of armored vehicles, self-propelled artillery, and multiple rocket launchers, the army is structured around armored brigades, mechanized infantry, airborne elements, and artillery support. These forces are trained for desert warfare, rapid response, and combined arms operations, drawing on experiences from conflicts like the Gulf War and operations in Yemen. In the air domain, the Royal Saudi Air Force stands out as one of the most capable in the region, operating a large fleet of advanced combat aircraft. This includes hundreds of fighter jets such as F-15 Eagles and Typhoons, supported by transport planes, helicopters, and aerial refueling tankers. With around 900 total aircraft and a strong focus on pilot training through international partnerships, the air force provides air superiority, ground attack, and reconnaissance capabilities. The Royal Saudi Naval Forces handle maritime security in both the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf, with bases on both coasts. The fleet includes frigates, corvettes, patrol boats, and mine countermeasures vessels, focused on protecting shipping lanes, oil exports, and countering piracy or asymmetric threats. While smaller than the air and land components, the navy has undergone modernization programs to enhance its blue-water potential and interoperability with allies.
