Every glance backward bends the line forward. Some of us say we want new life, but we keep replaying old nights in the bar, revisiting old relationships, driving past old places just to feel something again. That’s not reflection—that’s attachment. And attachment always pulls your hands off the plow. You can’t move toward freedom while romanticizing what kept you bound. And let’s be clear—this is about identity. Addict. Criminal. Depressed. Victim. Those may describe who you were, but they are not who you are in Christ. The old man wasn’t improved—he was crucified. If you keep calling yourself by a name Jesus already nailed to the cross, you’re resurrecting what God declared dead. A real relationship with Jesus doesn’t polish your past—it ends it. New life requires new direction. Eyes forward. Hands steady. The Kingdom is built by people who decide, “I’m not going back.” Not back to the bar. Not back to the bed. Not back to the street. Not back to the identity that almost destroyed them. If you want truth and joy, stop staring at the dirt behind you. Set your gaze on the rows ahead.
