the sad part is we as the viewer get to observe the world around them. also notice she has a cloak over her as if to say she is forever cloaked in darkness. but her sister can peer out of it.

She is literally feeling the sunlight cascade over her freckled skin. This is beautiful because it shows that you can be going through so much in life and you can still stop to smell the roses. The problem is that people pity her. She's obviously feeling calm and happy. I don't feel pity for her at all. She's a warrior of a sorts and if I passed her along the side of the road I'd tip my hat and say good day to her. It doesn't subtract from the beauty, it only adds to it.

Food for thought: do blind people have less lines and wrinkles on face, as they never saw facial expressions, do they portray them differently? Are they less expressive? Genuinely curious

Thinking the Blind Girl is experiencing more, through sound, touch and smell than the sister who is focused on sight alone. I wonder if both miss experiencing the butterfly on the girl’s shoulder.

Also Mathew did you notice the butterfly? Isn’t it a symbol of transformation? Meaning the blind girls might’ve gotten blind by some life event that happened to her rather than being born blind and now she’s trying maybe to remember how it all looked like before when she could see and maybe she’s trying to learn how to feel the present without seeing it with her eyes but rather with the eyes of her soul 🤔 it’s very interesting how the whole painting is filled with details that tell the story of these two sisters

Any painting that has writing on it, or in this case a label shows how weak the painting is. If it needs a description, we are seeing its weakness. We should 'pity the blind' by understanding the painting and not the label.

She's probably listening to her sister telling her the strange things she is seeing, a double rainbow. This is especially meaningful as she doesn't know nature, for she can't see it, to understand that a double raindow is even something to consider amazing or that she simply trust what her sister sees and says.

I've never seen this painting before. My eyesight has been degrading from childhood and I was told by doctors that one day I will lose my vision which used to be my greatest fear as someone who wanted to become an artist. This painting speaks to me

I don’t think that feeling pity for her as a put down at all, but a recognition of how we ourselves feel, which is why we can enjoy the moment through her because our lives are so chaotic and stressful.

I’d not heard of this artist before your videos. This one and the three sisters playing cards, they are exquisite and I now need to acquire prints for my wall. Thank you.
