High cortisol is really common in women. Especially mothers! It's usually because of carrying the mental labour and extreme levels of stress and anxiety that are put upon women. We carry that anxiety in our stomachs. It seems to be more significant in women with ADHD and I think it's linked to gut issues and also those gut issues affecting how we absorb vitamins and minerals. Vitamin D and magnesium are the first things to increase and usually b vitamins. But also using fermented foods to improve gut health. A lot of the stress comes from women being groomed to people please and not having good boundaries and it really does have an astronomical effect on the gut. Women also have constantly been on diets which don't help. So instead focus on eating in a way to care for the body. High fibre, high protein, sources of magnesium and cultured foods but also eating to enjoy those foods. Centering yourself and focusing on gentle exercise where possible but more importantly gentle activity that you enjoy and thrive in.
