@madscientistofmuscle: Two Vertical Bar Pull-Ups... this challenging pull-up variation I find de-emphasizes the upper arm flexors (biceps and brachialis) and shifts more tension onto the lats and upper back, due to the vertical placement of your hands. It's very similar in concept to a Crucifix pull-up (which is done with fully vertical bars) and is a way to mimic the setup for those. It REALLY challenges your grip strength because you have to clamp down hard enough to keep your hands from sliding down the bars. The setup is fairly simple but will require two bars and a rack, so not a great one for a crowded gym but awesome for a home gym. Just lean the two bars into the corners of the rack in a V shape. The bars should be angled in, not fully vertical, so that they're fairly stable in the corners. Since they're not anchored, they may shift a little but I found it pretty easy to control. This is definitely an advanced pull-up variation and very effective. One optional part of the final rep is as my grip was starting to fade, my hands started sliding down the bars... I went with it and kept trying to pull myself up as my hands were sliding down. This made for an interesting final rep - my body isn't moving but hands are still sliding down in the path of the exercise! I wouldn't recommend that on bars with deep knurling. My bars have some but not deep. #madscientistofmuscle #pullups #calisthenics #bodyweighttraining #gripstrength
