@expedition.ola: This is Bodie’s rescue story. The part we don’t talk about🥹 It’s messy. It’s sad. And it’s beautiful. It didn’t turn out the way we hoped. But saving one life will always be better than saving none. We haven’t shared this for a while because it often just turns into “but what about the other dog?” That day, we found two street dogs together, and we wanted them both. We never wanted to separate them. If we’re being honest, we wanted to help her more. We saw her blind eye, her hesitation, the way she held herself just out of reach and we wanted to give her a reason to trust the world. But some dogs aren’t ready the day you meet them, and we’ve learned that forcing fear isn’t rescue. Bodie chose us. He climbed into our truck, curled up like he already belonged, and trusted us without hesitation. Today, he is our forever dog, the love of our pack leader. Our mission would not be what it is without him. He was meant to join us that day. So many people watch a two minute video and make assumptions, that this is where the story ends, that we forgot about her, that we moved on. Nothing could be further from the truth. We never forgot her, and we never gave up. For the past year, every time we’re in Bodie’s town, we return to this street. We talk with the neighbors. We ask for help. We try again. We don’t always share these moments, because this is real life, not a TV show, and rescue doesn’t always come with a clean, happy ending you can force on demand. Over the past year, we’ve seen so much tragedy on just this one street. Litter after litter. Dogs with broken bones, tumors, infections, everything you never want to imagine. Thinking about Bodie still living there is something we’re thankful we saved him from. If you’ve been watching closely these past few days, you’ll see that even while caring for Six and doing everything we can for other street dogs, we’ve been coming back here too. Every day. Several times a day. Because we will never give up on her.
