Wait why? We loved our minky couture blanket from the NICU & the story behind why they're donated to nicus is so sweet. 🥹 It was a sweet surprise to go in one day with it in a little gift bag for my preemie.

now i’m no baby professional but “we all ingest microplastic daily” doesn’t really hit the same if we’re talking about super vulnerable preemies with underdeveloped lungs/hearts fighting to survive

It’s also highly flammable. We use cotton only in our NICU. Families are given quilts made by volunteers to go over their baby’s isolette. Those are made of cotton, as well.

Minky and couture shouldn’t be in the same sentence anyways. It’s like saying Michelin Star McDonalds

As a neonatologist I cannot imagine any reason to have a singular piece of that sort of material anywhere in the vicinity of my critically ill patients

It’s slippery slopes- we keep getting ok with more plastic in more places it shouldn’t be. Thank you for being a voice of reasob

Just know that people like me think about you often! I’m now constantly looking at the fabric composition and refuse to pay for garbage. I’m currently going through my closet donating pieces that don’t fit/serve me to a charity for women. I hate that you’ve received so much hate bc you’ve brought such knowledge and awareness to little ole me. Thank you for persisting and keeping us educated and aware!!!

can we just abandon polyester fiber as a whole? it’s awful for the environment and doesn’t last at all

Minky on newborn babies?! People have to not know how dangerous they are or that’s negligence.

Microplastics and no fire retardants are used, they are incredibly flammable and MELT into skin when they catch fire, it doesn’t just turn to soot.

I think my fam thinks I’m crazy for my request of NO synthetic fabrics for ANY baby items… cotton or wool or other natural fibers ONLY. We’ve been gifted some polyester things and of course I’m grateful but they will be saved for later, regifted or donated.

The NICU my son was in gave us a beautifully hand made cotton quilt (donated by local quilters). As my mom is a quilter, these cotton quilts are the only kind of baby blankets that will last and get better with age/washing. Minky fabric just gets gross over time as the heat from a hot wash/dryer melts the polyester fibers together

If folks really want something soft, look to mohair! Or any mohair blends. Yes, mohair can be expensive - but this “fancy” soft plastic charging $200. One is much more worth it

My NICU baby was on Cotton. Like an Insurance Company needs another reason to deny line items on a claim because some company weaseled their way into exclusivity deals with hospitals
