She purposely devalued the masters so she could force a buy back. No one would buy those masters off of him because without Taylor's PUBLIC approval they'd be useless and she knew that.

I would argue that being the girl that gets saved by the football player is something she wanted all along though. We see this idea of a savior in a lot of her early work. Waiting to be picked, chosen, noticed. By making herself this woman who got "picked" by the Prince after all, she is able to both fulfill "the Prophecy" as well as continue to identify with the victim side of herself rather than the empowered side, because of what the empowered side would cost her personally.

What frustrates me about those comments is that any song can be about anything if all it takes is a deeper analysis with no supporting evidence lol while TS can be vague about who her songs are about, she’s pretty clear about WHAT her songs are referencing

Would love to hear your thoughts on her masters situation because it was very sketch. Scott Brochetta claims he offered her the chance to buy back her masters but she refused the offer. She only got mad when she found out Scooter Braun was the new owner and made a huge spectacle about it. Yet no one else under Big Machine (whose masters were also sold) complained. She made it all about her. She also conveniently overlooks the fact that her dad, a shareholder of Big Machine, made $15M off of the sale of her masters. Lotta holes in her story.

Also at the point that she wrote the song, she’d already seen that her versions were profitable and successful. She wanted her masters back for the meaning of them but from a business standpoint she knew she didn’t need them.
