My biggest issue with polyester is that it makes people sweat so much worse. I’ve had to throw out most of my polyester shirts bc they make me DRIP sweat, even when I’m just chilling at home.

Some polyester fabrics are super expensive because they’ve been engineered to do something specific (sweat-wicking, heat insulation, etc) and all that research and development was a lot of labor and money. Also you can’t wash silk with water!!! It’s not practical for everyday and would actually make it less sustainable bc u would never wear it/take care of it

some polyester is phenomenal - it's such a flexible fabric with so much versatility that natural fibres simply cannot replicate and i will die on that hill. some polyester clothes are cheap and terrible and some are my favourite pieces in my wardrobe

Idk I stopped buying polyester clothes last year with exception to vintage and I now I sweat less, my clothes don’t get warped in the wash, and I feel more comfortable. We will never eliminate it, but we definitely should stop making all our clothes out of plastic.

A friend finds it entertaining to walk through clothing stores with me because of this. We used to just walk through the clothing section at Target and feel things, and I was always checking fiber tags. Poly blend sweaters! Great, you'll be toasty. 100% polyester floaty little sundresses? No, these should actually be rayon, it's nice and drapey and it's extruded from plant matter, so it breathes.

My biggest complaint about those telling u how bad polyester is and how u should only own natural fiber, is they seem to be suggesting we all go out r invest in that all natural wardrobe and dispose of the synthetic one. The problem with textiles is we aren’t caring long enough about what we have before disposing of it and buying more for the serotonin hit. I own things I got a decade ago and still love. I’ve made things out of rayon that r my favorite. We need to make the things we have last no matter what they r made of.
