As a gun owner, I'd happily go through the same process as getting a driver's license and car; permit, trainings, testing, insurance, etc. At bare minimum, we should have to carry "gun-owner's insurance."

When I got my concealed carry permit there were 14 people in my class that never fired a weapon before. They barely hit a target at 6 feet fast and I was terrified that they got a permit after that. I’m 100% down with regulations on guns like they’re cars.

They should have to register it with a serial number and ballistic test on file. Then if a gun is used fatally, when they run it through the database they’ll know who last had the gun legally to get a starting point on where it is now. It won’t be perfect but it’ll cut down on a lot when people use them in the heat of the moment.

Another reason we registered cars is so that when a car is stolen, we can get it back to the person it actually belongs to. What’s crazy to me is that gun owners don’t want that. Once a gun is stolen from them, they never wanna see it again……. Almost like they know what it’s going to be used for, and they have to distance themselves from it. It’s definitely not that they’re curious as to who took it and would like to get it back while holding a thief accountable.

I have a few myself. I don’t brag about them, I don’t show them off. I always conceal carry and don’t make it obvious. It is a tool and not a toy. I am also smart enough to know they aren’t coming for them and they are treated responsibly

I used to be a corrections officer in the south, I won't say which state, there were officers at my facility that I would reschedule if I found out they were going to the qualification range the same day I did, a few the instructor wanted to reschedule for the same reason. In my almost decade at that job, two were actually shot (non-fatally) at range.
