My coworker and I were talking about how angry it makes us when people say “you don’t look autistic” or “everyone’s a little autistic” 🙄🙄🙄

The thing that’s wild is I thought everyone masked and are just way better at it than me. The body and brain overstimulation & dysregulation is exhausting too.

I told my cousin that I was late diagnosed and she said she was so sorry to hear that and asked what medications they put me on. :::eye roll:::

I have AuDHD.... I think my mother and sister have ADHD... but because it's a stigmatised disability? they don't wanna recognise it. But I see it all the time in them. It also causes my mother to minimise my condition because she THINKS it's normal behaviour. Her mind cannot tolerate the possibility she is wired differently to other people.

You articulated this very well! I’m glad that more of us are starting to speak on this topic, especially because the existing research and information around it is very… Incomplete… to say the least

i didn't know I was being overstimulated until 26. i didn't know that its normal to start screaming at people to turn off their YouTube videos or games or that my massive meltdowns were because of overstimulation. also i didnt know its not normal to learn how to socially act from watching drama shows 🙃

Also when I was a kid I was constantly told that feeling profoundly different was normal and everybody felt that way. 36 now realizing that was a LIE.

Honestly being in an intense sensory overload is the same panic I felt before giving birth. It’s like you’re looking for a way to escape your bodies sensations

Before I knew I was autistic, when I was younger, I would always wonder why I was like dead tired and emotionally drained after hangouts with literally anyone just to find out I was hardcore masking without knowing it.
