it's a monopoly of money thanks to DuPont. Whenever DuPont's patents get ready to expire and they see mfg competition getting close, they lobby the government and invent a new refrigerant "that's better for our ozone" Always seem to cost the consumer more too. The rich get richer!!

2014 Dodge has R1234yf. I’m sure ag will follow suit very soon. Bad thing is, fittings are different, means buying new a/c gauges or adapters. 🙄

Ever noticed that since they’ve sealed the hole in the ozone, we’ve began seeing more shift in weather patterns compared to before when the gas could escape?

The newer 1234 machine are pretty slow and stupid. At least in automotive, 134 started getting fazed out around 2014 I think so the systems have only gotten more complicated. Do think looking for leaks is a little harder on a 1234yf system than a 134. 1234 you also have to watch if the compressor takes pag oil or not

Well, manufacturers didn’t switch because it was a better alternative. R12 was banned and they had no choice. It will be the same with 134 with the exception they’re not currently banning it, they’re just going to make it extremely annoying and expensive to get. I haven’t much experience with 1234 but it may work better with variable speed compressors which car manufacturers want for gas mileage. And one final note, look at the timelines of 12, 134 and 1234 and also compare who invented it then do the math.
