Why you weld fence nails to the jaws of a beaver trap

Jamie McDaniel :
Generally a leg hold trap does not hurt or permanently disfigure an animal. That trap has been altered and will cause damage. When trapping nuisance animals, those traps work phenomenally and are usually not placed in an area that would endanger large game. Just my opinion and my opinion only.

Most trappers now use offset or modified jaws on land sets that are designed to not injure whatever gets caught. Springs and swivels on anchors or drag chains are used to prevent injury to unwanted animals also. Why just tell what makes trappers look bad?

well I'll point out right away that this is not a legal trap....I personally disdain hunting any big game with hounds.. birds small game and hogs are pretty much the only reasonable need, or practical use of hounds I can justify

Well…the trap you’re using has been modified and would be considered illegal in most states anyway.

Sir, you took every ounce of credibility that you may have one had by using that trap or your demonstration. As a game warden) I’m sure you’ve seen a lot of things that weren’t right. As a hunter and a trapper, I’ve seen a lot of things that weren’t right. If you found that trap by somebody using it that person had no idea what they were doing as a trappper. It’s hard for me to imagine any situation where that trap would be usable or taking an animal. My guess is that he was using it for a trespasser or to somebody that was doing harm to his property. There are only a handful of states that do not allow leghold traffi
