@niiiinaaa___: Replying to @Ky W. I’ve thought about living in Japan many times but… I think Japan has more issues than people realize, and it would feel claustrophobic for someone like me 🤷♀️ #japan #japanese #japanculture #biracial #japantravel
I had this exact question the other day from a coworker and I said the same as you. I love visiting Japan, but I think living there would be very different!

With living and working in the US, you're able to afford a yearly trip to Japan, but living and working in Japan may not give you that same financial freedom to travel once a year

Online remote work is the most ideal thing. Having health insurance for $20 is great. Retiring does make sense here. I love the US and miss it but it’s just not really cost effective and I don’t really feel like I’m getting what I pay for.

if anyone knew about Japan work culture and work/life balance they wouldn't want to live there either.

I’m a Canadian who lives in Malaysia, and I prefer Asia over North America every single time. No country is perfect. But girl, give it a chance. I feel so safe in Japan, I don’t feel safe in America.

People are so dramatic about Japan and act like it’s insane to want to live anywhere else. There are a ton of enjoyable parts about living in the US that people are struggling to remmeber

out of curiosity, do you convert your money to yen and buy your plane tickets to Japan and whatnot or do you use USD until you're actually over there? would it be cheaper to do that and is it possible?

I've lived in Japan for 9 years. I wouldn't advise anyone to move because of the changes recently.
the low wages and the anti foreign sentiment

Gaijin here, lived in Japan 2 years - working full time doesn't allow for as much fun stuff as I would have liked... But did still get to do a lot of really freaking cool shit! So glad I had the experience!

I've lived there as an adult (just moved back to the US 3yrs. ago) and as a kid, and there's pros/cons to both the US and Japan, but I agree with your sentiment. The unique experience I had as a tatted, pierced hafu lady with purple hair while I lived there was certainly..... an adventure 😂

I got a degree in Japanese studies in 2017 with the intention of moving over and teaching of English, but besides being an older grad (32 when I graduated) and thus not traditional in any fashion, though my program the blinders had been removed. As much as I still love Japan, it would be difficult as a large, very white foreigner who struggles with a variety of issues that are easier to deal with in the US. Instead, I work in aviation and visit when I can.

I LOVED visiting Japan. But the work culture there seems rough, and you don’t benefit from the cost of living difference. And then there’s the cultural differences which would take forever to acclimate to. But same, if I had retiree money then maybe. But still probably just long holidays.

I’m not Japanese 😅, but I try to go once a year because I love shopping, eating, and just being a tourist. I always say that I can’t see myself living there, and I don’t think I could even afford the lifestyle I have when I’m just visiting. 😂

I’ve lived there and i loved it but it was a very specific time in my life, where i was single and ok with being alone. It’s very hard work and i prefer to visit or live there later on in life, with some retirement cash. It was can repressive if you are young and not used to the way of living. Every second counts in Japan because there’s just not enough time to live, work and rest.
