What those gatekeepers don't seem to take into account is the mortifying embarrassment that comes with not knowing our true selves for an entire lifetime. Being sneered at by the community we had hoped would welcome us with understanding makes it much harder.

And blowing up your life is incredibly isolating - most of my friendships were church-based and they were suddenly out of the picture. Still trying to find my community while getting over my own social anxiety.

I just wish there were more safe spaces to hang out without the pressure of actually dating. There are more geared to 20-30. I’m late life and a youthful 50s. But partnering also isnt 100% me yet

I'm 34 and a single mom of a toddler, and it's scary looking at the future and not knowing if I'll ever find someone.

I blew up my whole life to come out. I wouldn’t change any of it. I was in a mentally abusive relationship from 18 for 12yrs. Best thing I did leaving and coming out. Life is now amazing & peaceful.
