I remember when I did get accepted for an art course they just actively discriminated against me and scolded me for things they’d already been given the heads up on until eventually I had to drop out.

i get it, ostracizing and lack of understanding runs pretty rampant among schools. feeling different can be hard, and being treated as such doesn’t help at all. but i know you can definitely make it to where you want to be; and find a place where you’ll be accepted for what you are instead of evaluated based on how well you can pass as “normal”. that’s what every person deserves, and you’re no less of one because of how you differ. there’s a place for everyone, and a place for you!

isn't that, like, illegal? I’m fairly sure that where i live, colleges are required to accommodate disabilities

as someone with an autistic sister this actually made me tear up. i dont fully understand her and how she perceives things and it causes a bunch of arguements between us since we're treated so differently. iirc her level isnt really high and i've always treated her normally (despite my parents treating her awfully different), seeing this made me hurt bcs wdym you cant pursue your dreams bcs of being autistic, so sorry for that, but youre doing great!

I got late diagnosed with 20 with Autism and Adhd. Art school was never an option cuz my Education Grades were mad bad. The government told me you cannot learn that, ur not capable (Just say Im not good enough) I love Art for my life. I couldn't live without it ever since I was a lil shittler I was drawing crazy. But now Im doing literally nothing. Im 22 and my bf studies law and I saw his University it was so pretty (I live in seitzerland) I cannot work in the normal people life its hard for me to do smt I actually dont wanna do. I wanna do art and love what I do. But now I can just watch all ppl get successful and be happy and having a stabilized life. Im stuck, therapy doesnt work Im trying my best to survive in this bland world in grey. I love your words, I hold them dear I feel the same. I wanna be better I wanna be me but why is it so hard.

Also autistic, also delt with not belonging. You already have such a leg up it’s not even funny. Your writing is very engaging to read like others said. Idk what you need at this moment but I know you can find it. Find like minded others online and just start creating together and things will work out; even when it’s painful.

that’s the nice thing about the future og, because it ain’t necessarily set in stone what will happen, the future can become anything we want it to be through circumstance and effort

I think that art is a very lucky thing where you can get formal training without going to school. I think that just by talking with other artists abt techniques and what makes you passionate you can learn a lot more- getting anywhere in the art world seems to require a lot of socialization which schools can help mediate but also hinder. I think if it’s possible visiting events like comic/art/fan cons, book openings by illustrators and community art classes is a great way to meet ppl irl. But the connections you make online r also valuable. Trying to get involved in group zines or comic anthologies is a awesome way to meet people and get your work out
