100% pointless. Could also cut a board at 14 3x8 and use it in between or maybe just use your tape measure and do a layout on your top and bottom plate at the same time.

we make our own for less than $2 worth of 2"× 2" deck strips. But if you wanna throw money away get ya some aluminum ones.

Everyone getting on this about other, cheaper options. yet this is about simplicity and repeat accuracy. Can you use a tape measure? Sure, but then you have to stop, measure, line up, and nail rather than just grabbing a board or two (depending on if it's the start or in the middle) and nail. Can you use a pre-cut piece of wood? Sure, but it won't hold everything in place, it can warp, if it's not cut perfectly or an end gets compressed/chipped, it can be uneven, and it doesn't account for/prevent temperatures light differences in wood thickness or temperature (the last making it vary, itself). For those that don't do such work on a regular basis and who want to make sure they are doing it right every time, this is simpler and more assured/consistent. Is it overall better to become more competent and confident with the tape and measuring to promote your own speed and accuracy? Sure. But for those that aren't going to be doing it that often, this is likely much faster.

This would be cool if it was just you maybe? Idk having another person laying out in front of you or managing your time helps too.. dedicating a half day to laying everything out and then installing is faster. You grab the board and shoot. This is just an extra step I feel like.. it is super cool no doubt. And I’m sure it has its place.
