for those confused, the second child's choice is not whether to be born with disability but whether to be born at all. Their specific existence is tied to that disability, for the mother to have a child without it, a different child would be born. We are asking this question from the perspective of the disabled adult child already existing, which is an important detail. The question becomes not should she have caused his disability, but rather should she have caused his existence. that's why the two scenarios are different. from the perspective of before the child is born the question feels obvious, the existence of a hypothetical child born with or without known disability is clear. But after, how do we label an existence that is inextricably linked to disability innately harmful without undermining the legitimacy of that person's existence?
