Replying to @tah❤️ I want to respond to a few comments I’ve been seeing. First of all, if you have the means to buy or sew a new outfit for church every week, that’s beautiful. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. If dressing your best for God is your personal conviction, I respect that. But my point was never that people shouldn’t dress well. My point is that church shouldn’t become a place where people feel pressured to compete or feel ashamed because they only have one or two decent outfits. If someone wears the same neat, clean, decent dress every Sunday because that’s what they have, they shouldn’t feel embarrassed. They shouldn’t feel less spiritual or less worthy because of it. I also saw comments about my outfit, saying the neckline is too low or questioning why my hair isn’t covered. I respect that different churches and different Christians have different convictions about modesty and appearance. Everyone should follow their convictions before God. But let’s be careful not to make our personal convictions the standard by which we judge everyone else’s relationship with God. The Bible reminds us that God looks at the heart, and while our outward appearance matters, our love, humility, obedience, and worship matter even more. So if your conviction is to wear a new outfit every Sunday, that’s okay. If your conviction is to wear the same outfit repeatedly because that’s what you have, that’s okay too. Let’s make church a place where people feel welcomed by Christ, not measured by their wardrobe.
