5 years after Oso the state allowed logging on a large section of east tiger mountain, incredibly steep terrain above the riverfront neighborhood of Upper Preston just outside Issaquah. The one road in/out of the neighborhood is partially washed out and it is incredibly landslide prone terrain.

this event is mentioned in the 2010 documentary about Kikisoblu (Princess Angeline), daughter of Chief Seattle. I remember the account mentioning the white folks greedily grabbed up stranded fish... while the tribes mourned knowing this was very bad for future fishing.

All of the emerald downs area is all marsh. That’s why there’s nothing in between the hwy and the track is because the track is built on marsh

actually... the way White Center got named was Mr. White and Mr. Green flipped a coin and White Center was born. per my dad who was a journalist here in the 60s-80s.

I have only been here a few years but that’s my home, lake Washington/Renton/Kent, you’re talking about and I appreciate you so much. I was looking at topography maps the last few weeks a lot. I could see the ghost of river there. There’s actually the ghost of a much larger sea in this area too. When I looked at the actual topography I was stunned. I work in fife, got stranded at work cause I can’t go “home”, and when I realized all the towns around me were getting evac orders I figured I better get really real about knowing where the biggest hills and valleys are. It was fascinating. I’m fine btw, I’m at an advantage cause I live mobile. So I just been putting my home in safe zones. I even went out and spent last weekend at the coast. This weekend I’m staying safe in Tacoma.
