@seafoodtalk: How Fast Can an Alligator Gar Grow? A Real Growth Experiment Six months ago, I started a real-life aquarium experiment to test the growth speed of one of the most controversial invasive fish species - the alligator gar. Starting at just 10 cm long, this fish was given unlimited food in a controlled environment to observe how fast it could grow with no shortages. The results were shocking. Within a single week, it grew 3 cm. In less than one month, it passed 30 cm, outperforming nearly every ornamental fish kept in home aquariums. Its aggressive growth and dominance even forced my one-meter-long arapaima out of the tank. That moment completely changed how I viewed this species. After months of restricted feeding in a small tank, the gar stabilized around 40 cm. Today, the experiment officially restarts. I moved it into a two-meter canvas pond and stocked it with over 2,000 feeder fish - enough (hopefully) to last months. This marks the beginning of a new growth monitoring phase, with weekly measurements to track exactly how fast it grows. Alligator gar are often discussed in the U.S., especially in places like Texas, Florida, and Louisiana, where they're known for their size, power, and invasive potential. This video isn't just entertainment - it's a real educational look at why these fish are so controversial and why responsible fishkeeping matters. Follow along for weekly updates as we find out one question everyone asks: how long will it take for this alligator gar to reach one meter? Like, comment, share, repost, and save so you don't miss the next update. #alligatorgar #invasivespecies #LearnOnTikTok #wildlifeeducation #experiment
