And in the US among a lot of companies, you’d have to work for them for YEARS to get 28 days of vacation.

Well in Germany you can self certify as many times you need to. You just need to certify by a doctor from the 4th day of every sickness. Full payment in any case.

Wait until they see the hire&fire culture in the USA. I turned down a job because it came with ZERO hours of PTO per year. If it’s a holiday? I lose pay for that day. Health insurance was sky high, more expensive than COBRA rates.

So relatable. I just moved from Paris to London. I lost my 12 days RTT, but not having to sit in a doctor's office on day one when you feel miserable is an upgrade.

I prefer the English style when it comes to the self-certify process (not sick pay, just self certifying). The French system (coming from experience) directly discriminates against women as we (I at least) need to try and rush to a doctor pretty much every month because of menstrual pain just to get a doctors note. When I was in France I was genuinely stressing out about needing to get a doctors note on the first day of my period or I’d simply have to say “well, the first day has arrived, I’ll simply not attempt to come to work because of the system design)”. Whereas in the UK it’s much more simple whereby I can simply plan to go to work or uni then tell my manager or teacher on the day “sorry mate, pain is bad, I’ll need to go home” or just simply wake up on the day and say “sorry, not coming in”.

I mean they put you to work and that is that. They forget to pay you or any legal stuff. If you are ill you work! The problems we have😫😫
