@rochellekingandrews: Everyone talks about groundwork — but why do we actually do it? In the Herd Connection Method, groundwork exists so the horse feels safe and regulated around us, and so we have a clear line in the sand to come back to when things start to unravel. The three commandments are simple. Horses are simple. The clarity has to live with us. • The horse stays an arm’s length away, at your shoulder • “Whoa” means stop, stand, breathe, relax — always • “Go” means go immediately, no delay When these erode, behaviour doesn’t become naughty — it becomes unsafe. Groundwork isn’t about exercises. It’s about communication. Clarity over pressure. @cavallo_boots.fashion @HairyPony @KEPITALIAofficial @TuffRock @tuff#HerdConnectionMethod #ClarityOverPressure #GroundworkSafety #HorseBehaviour #CalmConnectedHorses

I love calling it coping instead of desensitizing! Is it ever confusing to her that you can come in her space, but she can’t come in yours?

So how do you teach them that, exactly? I’m a 40yo beginner and love learning! Is it just lots of time working over these 3 points and rewarding the correct response until they get it?

I love this information. My daughter has a Grand Prix dressage horse. He’s 15. He was acquired recently. He seems to have one brain cell 😆 he can write an outdoor arena with cars and sirens and everything and do all his test just fine inside put a little construction cone in a corner and he can’t go past it and becomes very reactive. His previous trainer would try to ride him through that, making him get past it. Is there something that my daughter can do to make him more confident in her and knowing that it’s OK to ride past something that’s different in the arena whether it’s the door a jar, a pole in the wrong place a cone somewhere, etc.

My green horse is great on the ground until she gets nervous. When she’s nervous she will completely disregard that I’m there and walk right through me. She spooked the other day and knocked me down. Sounds like there is a hole in the training but how do I fix that?
