being distrustful is just pattern recognition and having a good air of caution in a rough political climate, ur good

Personally, I think a healthy distrust of ANYONE you meet until proven otherwise is a smart approach.

Not trusting men does not mean you center them.

Being immediately suspicious of and automatically disliking any particular people group is called bigotry, and it's generally a bad thing.

tbh i feel like it’s just another way to silence, gaslight, & shame women for standing up to our oppressors

It’s actually a simple concept. You can’t “decenter” something that’s always at the center of your attention. It’s the same way I feel about white people. I’d rather just lift up my community, rather than constantly talking about how horrible the other side is.

You can be distrustful of men generally without obsessing over how much you don’t trust them :) maybe that’s your point but IMO decentering men means not thinking about them constantly, whether in a positive or negative regard

If you’re focusing on how you treat men, positively or negatively or neutrally, you are focused on men.

There is nothing wrong with being wary and keeping yourself safe, but when it becomes paranoia the negatively affects others is when it becomes a problem.

idk if I agree with this. Obsessively disliking is maybe too much, but being distrustful is just basic pattern recognition and personal safety. Decentering men is also about acting accordingly despite their feelings

blaming men as individuals rather than patriarchy as a system will get us nowhere. you can’t get rid of misogynistic men without getting rid of the SYSTEM that made them misogynistic

in this case you did not truly decenter men, you just centered them in a different way. it's good to be self aware about it
