@alwaysabbyy_: people celebrate PRs, but they don’t really talk about what comes after injury or setbacks… when your strength drops faster than your confidence. going from a 280 lb back squat to struggling with 100 lb box squats was more mentally challenging than I expected. it wasn’t just about the weight; it was about relearning patience, checking my ego, and trusting a body that didn’t feel familiar anymore. I’ve had countless moments where I was so close to quitting - not because I didn’t care, but because it felt exhausting to keep showing up without seeing the version of myself I recognized. every training session felt like a reminder of where I used to be, and the gym slowly went from a place I loved to a place I was starting to resent. I began to skip sessions, half-ass my programming, and question whether this was even worth it anymore… if you told the old me that I’d be proud to squat 145 lbs one day, I wouldn’t have believed you. my current progress doesn’t look impressive on paper, but it represents consistency, restraint, and learning how to trust my body again. the gym still isn’t what it used to be for me… but I’m hopeful. i’m still rebuilding my relationship with training, and for now that’s enough. ❤️

Lifting heavy never pays unless your occupation requires - professional athlete. Otherwise it costs you.

I blew out my SI joint squatting 280 which was relatively light for me at the time. 8 reps in, fairly easy set, I was half way up and about to rep when, pop. I was never the same but I was in my 40s

I always worked out to look like I can lift really heavy weight, not to actually lift heavy weight. Knees, back, pecs, shoulders all in tact, not surgeries. 😏

I tore my ACL+meniscus last Christmas, had a repair and meniscectomy in March, and my graft failed in August. The recovery has been humbling and frustrating and I am SALTY but determined 😤😤😤 the only days I've missed was the day I had surgery and my rest days.

omg, I got an injury in July and all of my lifts are back to starting or less than starting weight and it's so demoralizing. Proud of you for keeping going even when it's tough. You're a beast. 💯

100%! Now that I’m 45 I feel like I have a setback once a year, but on days like this morning where I’m back to hitting 3x10 on 110# incline dumbbells, the weeks where I listen to my body and not my ego pay off

🙋🏼♀️I can relate!!! I’ve had a few surgeries over the years & they’re humbling. Starting from scratch is hard!!! The one that probably hit the hardest was hormones. I was on HRT & just one day my hips hurt. Lifting that 200# went to a 35# bar real quick at the beginning of 2025. I’ve had HRT adjusted & got over 100# B-Sq a few weeks ago.
