Venting to a psychiatrist is relevant when getting diagnosed, after that you're talking to the wrong person and honestly wasting their time.

The problem that I’ve always had is I will try to explain the presentation of symptom I’m having and they brush it off with “talk to your therapist”. It got so bad I was almost misdiagnosed with a delusion based disorder when I actually have CPTSD and OCD. I expect them to listen to me and be respectful rather than brushing me off and saying “take this med I didn’t tell you anything about and probably doesn’t match your symptoms cause I didn’t let you explain them”

no youre exactly correct they are two different jobs and they provide two different services. i don’t know why people don’t understand that if you’re seeing a psychiatrist for meds, you should also be in therapy.

The only issue is when they refuse to listen to you. I told mine that I was having ideation without intent on acting on it and he told me that wasn’t possible??

When I was a kid i didn’t know there was a difference between the two. I had a psychiatrist and a school counselor and I thought they were both therapists who were in contact with each other.

I've never had a psychiatrist be toxic to me but I've had to discontinue several therapists due to inappropriate behavior. sometimes that distance is protective.

I actually had a VERY nice psychiatrist who would let me vent lol. But I think those vents are important because she needs to know what i struggled with to medicate me for those situations lol. But I think for other people they just want some more empathy in a time where they're struggling enough to need meds

ngl as a depressed autistic person I love the psychiatrist 😂 like yep, tracked my symptoms on the chart for you, also noticed I wasn't sleeping well so added Vitamin D and magnesium to the list. let's up my meds by 1 unit, see ya next month

So when I was 12 and at my phschiatrist and my mum said I didn’t have any friends and her response was “well it’s probably because of your symptoms” and at the end of the session I was crying she literally just looked at me extremely coldly and she also said that everyone hated me but if I was on the right medication it could fix that was that just her job?!?!!?

It’s hard bc sometimes my psych will ask how I’ve been feeling and I can say “awful. But, I’m going thru a lot so it could be that and not the drugs” and she’ll switch my dosage anyways

i think the joke isnt to demonize psychiatrist but kinda make a joke of the diffrence between them while most people dont. know the diffrence
