He doesn’t understand why people cross the road or clutch their bags tighter. To him a stranger is just a friend he hasn’t met yet. He wags his tail slowly and looks up with soft eyes waiting for a sign it’s okay to say hello. One day a woman stood frozen watching him. She was clearly scared. I told her she didn’t have to come closer. After a minute she stepped forward and held out her hand. Shadow leaned in gently and rested his head against her leg. She laughed and said she’d never felt so safe next to such a big dog. That’s the reality people never see. Cane Corsos and other big breeds are not monsters.
