@quiggs1982: I've talked about this before, but please be careful when buying home. I know owning a home is the American dream, but that dream comes with very real consequences when it comes to home repairs. It's not cheap to own a home, and sometimes that dream will financially ruin you. #homeownership #homerepairs #buyingahouse

Renting is freedom. As far as I’m concerned, the only thing I have to worry about is locking my door.

Do you have a Butler's Book? . Every home owner needs to make and have a Butler's Book. My realtor made one for me and sat me down to take me through that book to show me everything I needed to know about having a home. I think every first time home buyer should have a realtor like her. . A Butler's Book is a book (or binder) that has details about your property: mortgage papers, insurance papers, home inspection papers, property survey for boundaries, List of annual property tax payments and county assessor information, structure details - roof materials, last time the roof was replaced, plumbing/HVAC/attic vents, window type(s), doors, foundation inspection, paint color, last time the house was painted, flooring, when the floors/carpet was last updated, type of plumbing, list of plumbing repairs/upgrades/receipts, wiring inspection, list of wiring repairs/upgrades/receipts, water meter information/location, gas meter information/location, electric meter information/location, type of fence, fence installation/upgrades/repairs/receipts, trees/tree ages/arborist care of trees (pruning, pest/disease treatment), lawn type, garden beds, garage/carport/sheds/decks/patio/patio cover with installation/upgrades/repairs, major appliances - HVAC type/installation/upgrades/maintenance schedule/repairs, Water heater type/size/installation/upgrades/maintenance schedule/repairs, range type/installation/upgrades/maintenance schedules/repairs, refrigerator type/size/installation/upgrades/maintenance schedule/repairs, vents/filters/maintenance schedule/replacements, utility services names/account numbers/payment schedule/billing number/emergency number, phone service name/type/payment schedule/upgrades/repairs/replacements, internet service name/type/payment schedule/upgrades/repairs/replacements for modem/wifi router, cable service (if you have that, maybe streaming services instead) name(s)/type(s)/payment schedules/upgrades/repairs/replacements, and then a list of service providers: roofers, plumbers, electricians, handymen, carpenters, house painters, lawn care people, landscapers, arborists, windows/siding, favorite stores for home care (Home Depot, Ace, Lowe's...).

Bad move to sell it. Just push through. It’s an investment. It’s going to go up in value.

At 45, I have no desire to own a house. I don't want the maintenance or cost. Sometimes I like to change up where I live. If rather spend my money traveling and experiencing life. I keep my rent as cheap as possible and no car payment.

This is what people who constantly push home ownership down everyone’s throat fail to tell you. Sometimes it’s not a good fit and that’s ok!

When I was a first time homebuyer I was required to attend home ownership courses even though I was a mortgage loan officer. I wish they'd bring this back. Maintenance and repair issues took up about 30-40% of the education I received that I never learned on my job.

Look up low income home repair assistance programs. There are multiples of them. Also, very few homes I know of have 100% of everything fixed. Make a list of the most important repairs that need to be done first. Or start with the smallest repairs first.

You really need to become handy so you can do most of the maintenance and repairs yourself. That's what I did.

Can you have an insurance adjuster take a look? Maybe some of your needed fixes can be covered by insurance? Hugs ❤ I can relate

Oh gosh. I am sorry. We bought a semi fixer upper. My mortgage is under $1,300. The things that need to be fixed have been updated slowly. I could not afford to rent. It’s $2,500 everyday around around here.

my hubs and I have the same story but thankfully we can afford to fix the things. we've dumped over $50k in repairs in 5 years. everything that we've fixed should've been caught at inspection. if anything can wait, put it off, do things as you can, start a gofundme, don't give up. I'll pray that you receive a blessing

My parents also bought a fantastic home that needed a ton of work. It took them around 20 years to get everything updated and the way they wanted it. If you can afford the payment, perhaps you can tackle one project at a time.

This is why I council young people who can afford the house payment, but there’s a lot more to having a house than just the house payment. A lot of people’s houses go into disrepair because they can’t afford to fix them when they break. A new furnace is $10-$15,000unless you have that money sitting around and are able to save up that amount of money. I definitely recommend not buying a house.
