Even as a stylist, I am an artist. My medium is hair, color, texture, and transformation. The expectation that I must always present with “pretty, everyday, dressed-up” hair and makeup misunderstands what artistry looks like in practice. Artists are not required to be polished at all times to prove their skill. Would Picasso have worn a suit to paint? Would Michelangelo, while painting the Sistine Chapel, have been dressed in formal church attire? Creation is messy, experimental, and alive. My value is not in constant presentation, but in vision, technique, and the ability to create something meaningful. That is what defines an artist—and that includes me.

I think that this thought process should be taken away from how u present urself physically and applied to how u present urself digitally. Like instead of having hair, makeup, and outfit on point u should have ur social media and website on point.

All the people saying “idc what my hairstylist looks like as long as my hair looks good” plz say it for the people in the back 🥺😭 if I don’t put in 1000% of effort into my hair, makeup, outfit etc I will get sent home and sometimes it’s exhausting for me to put so much effort into myself 🥴 im an alt hairstylist and sometimes I just wanna be comfy when doing a bleach and tone before a vivid 😂🫶🏼

I know hair stylists have a messy job and are on their feet for hours at a time. I would rather they be comfortable than dressed a certain way. Besides, they're doing hair for a fee. Shouldn't they're experience and skill be more important?

As a client what you look like is the very least of my concerns. My top priority would be that you have an Instagram where I can check your work, you list your specialties where I can see them, and a way to book online is preferable. Price estimates are great too. I would never even think about what they look like at all.

Idgaf how my stylist looks, Long as my hair looks good lol. My stylist normally does have hair and makeup done, but that’s because she gets their early and does her hair and makeup for herself because she loves it. I’ve also gone to her and both of us looked a mess lol. Than half way through we both look good. Me doing my makeup too. 😂

I personally feel more comfortable with a stylist who is not “done up” but can still do great work. Just makes me feel more at ease and not like I’m being judged by how I look or whatever and I can relax and enjoy my experience. I’m not sure if this even makes sense lol.
