Even as a stylist, I am an artist. My medium is hair, color, texture, and transformation. The expectation that I must always present with “pretty, everyday, dressed-up” hair and makeup misunderstands what artistry looks like in practice.
Artists are not required to be polished at all times to prove their skill. Would Picasso have worn a suit to paint? Would Michelangelo, while painting the Sistine Chapel, have been dressed in formal church attire? Creation is messy, experimental, and alive.
My value is not in constant presentation, but in vision, technique, and the ability to create something meaningful. That is what defines an artist—and that includes me.
