Ingredients: ¾ cup vegetable shortening 1 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon cardamom 1 teaspoon cinnamon ¼ cup molasses 1 egg 2 and ¼ cup all-purpose flour For topping: ¼ cup sugar ½ teaspoon cardamom Instructions: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare a baking sheet with cooking spray or by lining with parchment paper. In a mixing bowl, beat shortening on medium speed for 30 seconds. Add brown sugar, baking soda, cardamom and cinnamon, then beat until combined. Add molasses and eggs, and beat until combined. Finally, add flour and beat until all of the flour is mixed in. In a small bowl, add sugar and cardamom. Stir to combine. Roll dough into 1-inch balls, then coat in the sugar and cardamom mixture. Place each coated dough ball on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the top is starting to crackle. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
