@titispassion: I know this isn’t for everyone and it might rub some people the wrong way, but this is me. I grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, where Christmas was about spending time with Family and Friends and good Food! A new hair do and clothes were a bonus, not the focus. Most importantly, Christmas was centered on Jesus. The reason for the season. When I moved to the US at 17, I chose to keep that same spirit. My then boyfriend, now my husband, adopted the tradition too, and we’ve kept it ever since. I don’t expect gifts for my kids and I don’t send gift lists either. I still show love generously, especially through monetary gifts to family and loved ones, but there’s no pressure attached. I give because I want to, not because I have to. When my kids were younger, we stayed at hotels that had Santa and small gifts so they could enjoy the magic. But as they grew, they understood that Christmas for us meant traveling together as a family, resting, reconnecting, and honoring what the season truly represents. Christ. Gratitude. Togetherness. That has become our tradition.
