I have never experienced anything like what happened on that flight yesterday. At one point, I genuinely thought, “So this is how this journey is going to end?” There was screaming. There was praying. There was turbulence so violent that people who had been laughing just minutes earlier suddenly became prayer warriors. Yesterday, I boarded a flight from Lagos to Kano, expecting nothing more than a normal journey of about 1hr 15mins. Instead, we spent about 3 hours and 30 minutes in the air, and what happened between Lagos and Kano is something I will not forget in a hurry. When we got close to Kano, the rain was coming down heavily. The pilot was hovering, trying to determine whether it was safe to land. Then suddenly… About 70% of the tarmac lights went off. At that point, there was no choice. We were instructed to turn around and return to Lagos. But that was only the beginning. On our way back, somewhere around the Kaduna axis I guess, the weather was still terrible. Then suddenly, the aircraft dropped on Free fall. At least, that's what it felt like from where I was sitting. Initially, I thought we did emergency landing. It felt like the aircraft suddenly descended, perhaps to navigate around a very thick cloud. Followed immediately was a very violent vibration And that was when everything changed. Initially, when the turbulence started around Kano and it was still mild, some passengers were actually laughing and catching fun with it. But this one? Nobody was laughing anymore. The turbulence turned violent. People screamed. Two passengers reportedly fainted, while about three others lost control of their bladders. People were holding themselves. People were calling on God. Within seconds, everybody on that flight had become a prayer warrior. Except yours truly 😎. I was just there, observing the whole thing. And the scary part? The worst turbulence didn't even happen on our way to Kano. It happened like 15mins after it has been announced that we are returning to Lagos… We made it safely back to Lagos. And honestly, when we finally landed, I realized something: Sometimes, u don't fully appreciate how precious life is until u find urself thousands of feet in the air with absolutely no control over what happens next. Yesterday's flight reminded me that no matter how much we plan, there are moments when all we can do is trust God. I am grateful to be back on solid ground. 🙏 Have u ever experienced serious turbulence on a flight? What happened?
