Important fact: they were mostly Muslim and/or had Muslim leaders and much of this ingenuity, scholarship, and wealth was directly tied to their faith. I’m not African so maybe someone else can clarify this, but I’ve been told by many African Americans that they converted to Islam or at least felt like they had a kinship with Muslims because they believe their faith was stolen from them, so I just thought this fact was an important thing to acknowledge when discussing the prosperity in general that was stolen from them.
