gamers are just little meme enjoyers anyway, some of the biggest moments came from players feeling comfortable to make "unprofessional" content with casters - faker & caps tumble on stage, guma eating a giant croissant, etc.

Agreed, this is why my heart broke when Dash was let go. he isn't a coach or an analyst he's a passionate gamer who's a professional and I miss him. the LCS desk has lost that part off itself. it's why I prefer the Lec broadcast.

100% agree with that, been thinking that for years too, I’d say it’s really gotten worse the last 3/4 years. I’m a French native and used to always watch English broadcasts because it was better, but now I found the French broadcast is way more authentic and allows themselves much more creative freedom. The best example for me is that when a team is playing badly the English broadcast is always downplaying it or being « nice », whereas the French is not afraid of saying « they suck » when it’s deserved ofc. Sending a lot of love to all individuals casters bc they’re doing stellar work 🙏 it’s really in the broadcast creative direction as a whole I have an issue with

That’s right. It’s a gaming entertainment broadcast, which allows for a more relaxed, playful, and spontaneous tone - something you’ve consistently tried to incorporate. Ultimately, it should feel like friends talking about games on a couch rather than a highly serious, overly professional news program

i have to add another topic that keeps bothering me, maybe my comment will be seen: i always feel the handshakes at the end are so awkward. these players meet at the same tournaments, several times a year, in scrims or soloq they play each other regularly and still there is so much distance. yes there are exceptions with old teammates, but the majority acts like they’ve never talked… i‘m an old guy and my successful gaming days are in the past, but it used to be different.

I agree and feel like theyre is trying to be sky sports or something but like thats not what I want. Watching co streamers is what got me into playing league. I like the whimsyyyy

I completely understand it for the executives at Riot (and other esports places). At the end of the day, as a company, they want to be taken seriously, and they have stakeholders and shareholders and all this crap. As well as trying to look legitimate in the arena of other sports as well. So I get it. It isn’t fun. But I get it.

It’s hard I’ve recently started playing with a newgen he’s 21 and was 4 when league come out and has never known the early stages of the league scene. Genuinely there is a culture gap between us and what is funny or interesting for us (old people) they genuinely don’t care for. Same can be said for people who either aren’t from the scene or come from elsewhere.

Tbh, the silliness is what attracts the viewer because it feels like its something that is made to be enjoyed by the public. When it gets too serious it loses its charm and becomes boring

totally agree, and also the point made about traditional media you see nowadays the more "loose" and humoristic approaches take over. look at football cbs golazo is taking over engagement on social media because the presenters have great chemistry not because the broadcast is so detailed oir serious. tnt in the nba, and i could make a 10s of examples in sports nowadays where people love the fun stuff more then the super serious stuff. its all about balance in the end of course

I really loved monte+doas approach. Monte being super in-depth and analytical, while Doa seemed to show up up to just watch good league of legends and goofing around. Together they made a great duo, seemed like i was chilling with two best buds who would commentate even if they didn’t get paid. They had no budget, or nothing I seemed to care for. The same with tastetossis, idk. The seriousness of sponsored league, the Mastercard era seems so fucking flat. It’s pretty crazy that the two biggest things from a league-tournament I can remember is the taking the extra jersey of and you going bonk bonk bonk.

I think even TV is moving more towards off the cuff, less professional broadcasting in the sports space. I can’t speak for Europe but in America there’s broadcast like the ManningCast and Pat McAfee on the field where they co-stream a sporting event in a less traditional more relaxed format with some additional breakdowns but also many more jokes in a less serious structure

ngl, I loved the broadcasts around LoL season 4/5/6. It just felt like everyone loves the game and everyone had fun with eachother. The last time I checked it its just stiff and sterile.. also everything has a sponsors name to it which I personally hate. Thank you for being a bit of the chaos in the order 😂
