Empty cup? Aren't children supposed to be the most fulfilling thing in the world?

Parents don’t get to gatekeep exhaustion and overwhelm.

It takes 2 seconds to send a “hey my babysitter flaked on me, is it okay if I bring my kid? I have nobody else”

When you make plans for a meal you don’t bring extra people without a conversation. Period

"what about her cup" idk, probably would have filled more from a girls lunch with you if she'd found a babysitter

Sometimes it’s hard to have a conversation in front of a child. Depending on their age, the conversation topics might not be appropriate. So you don’t really get to visit.

I get that moms have it tough, but so do I, and our shared time should be positive for both of us.

If moms are so desperate for a break from the constant demands of children, then they should understand why a friend might not want THEIR break to be monopolized by the needs of children.

no it would be so upsetting to expect a girls day alone and then have to see that responsibility. even if she didn't make you do anything, your behavior would change subtly or otherwise.

Her not telling you she was bringing her child, is like when people make a reservation at a restaurant and don't count the kids as "people"

I have four kids. I am 100% in agreement. I would find it weird if they brought their boyfriend. A random other friend. A kid. Really anyone without communicating prior. If it’s that important to you to bring, or “essential” because you can’t get a sitter, be transparent. Real friends communicate.

I love my kids, but if they come to something it becomes completely about them. That shouldn't be thrust on people who might have needed it to be about them.

My bestie has three kids and she and I have had dinner, alone, every two weeks, regardless. I think kids have come maybe a half dozen times in 15 years, always with permission and out of necessity.

Did the mum know it was supposed to be child free? If so then I get the frustration but if they didn’t then you can’t expect them to automatically not bring their child because you don’t have one and you want a child free experience. Communication is key here between friends make your expectations known if they weren’t already made known of course
