@earthlinghouse: Once You Learn This, Fruit Tree Pruning Stops Being Scary Pruning apple, pear and quince trees doesn’t need to be intimidating. In cold climates like Ireland, the best time to prune core fruit trees is in spring or autumn, when the tree can recover quickly and direct its energy where it matters most. Good pruning improves airflow, strengthens structure, reduces disease, and encourages healthier growth and better fruiting. You’re not hurting the tree. You’re helping it thrive. A few clean cuts, a bit of observation, and confidence is all it takes. If you’ve been putting it off because it feels complicated, this is your sign to start. Once you understand the basics, pruning becomes one of the most satisfying parts of growing fruit trees. And your trees really do thank you for it. #FruitTreePruning #AppleTreePruning #PearTreePruning #QuinceTree #PruningTips #ColdClimateGardening #GardeningIreland #OrchardCare #GrowYourOwnFood #HomeOrchard #EdibleGardening #PermacultureGarden #SpringPruning #AutumnPruning

But what to do with the very long central branch? Do you cut it next year? Your tiktok was very helpful! 🥰

Is it not better to remove the central lead branch and create a chalice shape that isn’t too high.

but brenches growing inside or rubbing are only doing that because of mis-pruning in the past. at least this what my petmaculture teacher taught us 🙏

I’ve got a brutally butchered old mulberry tree in my garden. A previous owner has removed one half of the branches back to the trunk 😭 It’s now very lopsided and looks terrible. I’m also worried about the weight imbalance pulling it over. Will it recover or do I need to pollard or do something to the other side so it can recover and regrow a balanced shape over time?
