My family opened 1 present every hour. it made Christmas last much longer and made us appreciate that toy for at least an hour instead of being overstimulated with multiple and not knowing where to start. I actually loved it.

My mom gets Jesus a “happy birthday Jesus” ice cream cake at Dairy Queen every year. We sing happy birthday to Jesus on Christmas at dinner and eat it for dessert

We crumple up our gift wrap as we open our gifts, and as soon as the last gift is done, we descend into a smack down drag out “snowball fight” with the gift wrap. No one is safe. Toddlers and Grandmas too.

We have a “giving back” day. Us and our kids go through all of us our stuff and create a donation pile to give to others, and help make room for other gifts. After we donate those, we’ll each pick out an angel tree child and shop for them.

Every year we leave Santa a sandwich sub with his cookies since “he must need a real dinner at some point” (my mom was running late as a single mom one year, and didn’t have time for cookies, so she brought a sandwich home from work for Santa and we continued it into a tradition that now I do with my kids too! ✨)

We go digitally off grid Christmas Eve. No phones. No WiFi. Etc. and we each open a new book in the morning and spend the whole day snuggled up on the couch with the fire place going and read our books all day

My family always reads “Twas the Night Before Christmas” every Christmas Eve and every family member reads a page and passes it on. My older brother, who passed 6 years ago, would always read it in funny voices and accents. One random year I decided to record him reading it, and now we play his “page” every year. My parents have gotten my siblings and I a new ornament every year since birth that represents us in some way or something significant from that year to add to the tree, and once we move out we’ll get to take our ornaments to then add to our own trees and I think that’s really special because we’ll be able to look back on every ornament that represented us and those memories throughout the years
