Walking away from a career after 25 years is supposed to feel like relief….and part of it does. But there’s another part no one prepares you for… Grief!!! I really felt this at 52 when my 25 year career came to an end… I’d wanted out. I’d dreamt about freedom when the job was at its worst. And then freedom arrived…and it felt nothing like I expected. Not because I’d made the wrong decision. It was because nobody told me there would be a gap between who I no longer was…and who I was becoming. And nobody told me that gap would feel like grief. This is the part no one talks about and it’s where so many Gen X women feel stuck. Because when you’re trying to move forward while still holding onto who you used to be… You feel hesitant and you start second guessing everything…. It’s not a confidence problem. It’s not an age problem. It’s identity… 🌸 To build a new life you need to let go of your old one....
