I’m from Iowa , you can smell the pesticides being sprayed in the spring and all summer long. I rarely open my windows, but I am outside a lot riding horses. You just never smell good clean fresh air.

Iowan and agronomy student here! it's really disappointing to see all fingers pointing to agriculture right now. ESPECIALLY when it is coming from those with limited or biased information. In my experience, it is very hard to get rural people or farmers to listen to others if all you do is lecture them. Yes, big ag SUCKS and so do the companies that happen to have "spills" (oh not suspicious at all) into our rivers. There are also a lot of commercial farms who are ran by old farts and just plant and apply fertilizer like they always have. Different companies have started doing their own research for the benefit of farmers. It's important to know what you're putting on your crops/soil not only for the benefit of a healthy crop + yield, but also for the benefit of the environment! Also knowing your soil type and how your crops will react to amendments is so important. There are so many farmers implementing conservation measures for the benefit of their crops and soil. However, they cannot change the soil profile nor the weather/river temps. I really REALLY hope we get some legislation to protect our waterways and also protect farmers. There are already tons of incentives out there for farmers looking to implement conservation practices and organic farming!

My husband died of cancer. In a family of 6, 5 have had cancer. . He believed it was connected to the small town water supply that he had growing up. Austin Baeth, a physician and state legislator has a TikTok and he has spoken about the cancer issue a few times.
